The European Union's new chemical regulation - REACH – came into effect on June 1, 2007, and will be fully implemented on June 1, 2018.

The purpose of REACH is to raise the level of protection for human beings and the environment, to further alternative methods for the evaluation of risks posed by substances, to secure EU’s inner market, and increase competitiveness and innovation.

REACH covers substances and substance mixtures, substances that are intentionally released during normal use of articles and particularly hazardous substances, where exposure to human beings and the environment cannot be avoided during normal and predictable use.
